Sangiovese grapes grown by us in the heart of Santa Ynez Valley! This release marks our first vintage not only producing wine from Five Oaks but also working with this charming grape variety.
We began farming this rocky, oak-nestled 1-acre site in 2024, and are using regenerative organic practices in the vineyard, including cover-cropping, no-tillage, and the application of compost throughout. It is a delight to spend time in this small oasis, and we are excited to watch this site develop over the coming years.
In 2024, we harvested the Sangiovese over two picks and fermented using three different methods: carbonic, fully destemmed, and one with 30% whole clusters. Each was aged separately in neutral 500L puncheons and then blended before bottling.
This Sangiovese is bright and graceful, yet delightfully rustic and true to varietal—balancing classic Sangiovese dustiness with a gentle touch of California sunshine. Playfully punchy, yet restrained tannins round the palate. Pizza wine! Give this one a decant if you can for maximum enjoyment.
