Massa Vineyard is located in the remote highlands of Carmel Valley and sits at 1500 feet in elevation, overlooking the hills of the remote Cachagua region. The site's granitic, sandy loam soils and dry-farming approach make it an appealing place for this varietal. This was our first vintage making Cabernet Franc from Massa and we are pleased with the results!
We incorporated 50% whole cluster in the fermentation and primarily performed gentle hand pour-overs to minimize extraction and encourage some carbonic effect. After fermentation, the wine was pressed and aged in neutral French oak barrels for 10 months.
tasting notes: wild strawberries, violets, fresh raspberries, wet granite, green pepper
organic / 50% whole cluster / native yeast / unfined / unfiltered
